Our Objective

The Chamber's main objective is to provide services to their members' businesses and the Greater Irondale community. The finances to operate the Chamber come in part from a generous grant received from the City of Irondale each year. However, our primary source of income is from memberships and their annual dues. Additional funding is also received from Corporate and Luncheon Sponsorships, and sales from ads for our newsletter, Irondale Express and this website.

History

The Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce held its first organizational meeting on December 9, 1987 and its first Board of Directors meeting 9 days later. On January 8, 1988, GICC was incorporated and went on to receive its Section 501 (c)(6) status on September 7th of that same year.

The Red Caboose

The City of Irondale acquired a red Southern Railroad caboose in 1994 and restored it. A deck was around it for residents to have a place to view the more than 80 trains that make their way through the city each day. The caboose was offered it to the Chamber for office space in July of 1995, which we utilized until 2015, when we relocated to a small office in Irondale's City Hall.
