Irondale Sponsors Fire Science Academy at SVHS

Fire programIrondale business owners and residents have plenty of reasons to be proud of the ways our community is working together, and here is a big one.

At the request of Shades Valley High School principal, Mary Beth Blankenship, the City of Irondale is funding a "Fire Science Academy," and providing instruction for Shades Valley students interested in becoming a firefighter.  The class is taught by veteran Irondale firefighter and paramedic, David Brasher.  Students who complete the program become certified volunteer firefighters at age 18, and can then take a five-week course in the Alabama Fire College to become a full-fledged firefighter.

You can watch a full video report here on WBRC Fox6 about the program.
